KeyStone Twin
KeyStone Twin is Shapstone’s simulation and planning module within the KeyStone Grid Intelligence platform. It provides physics-aware digital simulation, cyber-security assessment, and long-term resilience planning capabilities for the electric grid.
Key capabilities
- Physics-aware grid simulation. High-fidelity models that capture power-flow, short-circuit, and dynamic behavior under normal and contingency conditions.
- Cyber-security assessment. Threat modeling and impact analysis that evaluate the cyber-physical consequences of security incidents.
- Resilience planning. Scenario-based planning tools for extreme weather, coordinated attacks, and cascading failures.
- DER and microgrid modeling. Integration of distributed energy resources and microgrid configurations into simulation studies.
- What-if analysis. Rapid scenario evaluation for operational and capital planning decisions.
Roadmap positioning
KeyStone Twin represents the strategic horizon of the KeyStone platform. While Locate, Live, and Forensics address real-time operations and historical analysis, Twin enables utilities to plan for the future — stress-testing their grids against emerging threats and evolving operational requirements.
Twin is currently in roadmap development. Planned capabilities include:
- High-performance computing clusters for continent-scale simulation scenarios.
- Integration with Academy research models for emerging technology evaluation.
- Real-time feedback loops that feed Twin insights back into Live and Embed for adaptive response.
- Standards-based model exchange (CIM, IEC 61850-8-1) for interoperability with vendor planning tools.
